CoSeal is a medical sealant that is used to stop leaks around sutures in natural or artificial blood vessels.

Cohesion Technologies expressed an interest in developing a clog-free tip to be used with their adhesive injector and adhesives. Cohesion had developed and marketed a similar device, but wished to expand the use of their product into laparoscopic surgical procedures. There were a number of specific design details and requirements that had been identified for the new application, and Cohesion recognized that there were specialized skills and considerable efforts needed to evaluate existing technologies, generate new concepts, analyze the options, select a design and develop tooling that would meet their user requirements for laparoscopic surgical use. In-house research, engineering and design resources were not available at Cohesion and outside resources were required to assist Cohesion in developing the product.

Fallbrook Engineering created CAD designs and prototype engineering models of the spray tip mixing head for the laparoscopic applicator that administers the sealant, and conducted bench testing of the CoSeal.
